Lifelike feat. A-Trak – Don’t Stop
These days nothing excites me less than when two big name producers join forces for a, ‘one of kind super-exclusive collaboration track’. This wasn’t always the way and you may think I’m being a cynical grump… but, it really has been overdone this year. Collaboration tracks happen over twitter these days and that sorta takes the excitement out of it all.
My expectations for the pairing of Lifelike & A-Trak were, in all honesty, quite low. Especially as the last time A-Trak did a ‘collab‘ it was that track called, ‘Money Making‘, which I absolutely hated. So, it was a bit of surprise to me that ‘Don’t Stop‘ is actually quite fun. It’s totally guilty pleasure in a way, I think the press release described it as being ‘urban‘, which it is, in the same way that Bomfunk MC’s are ‘urban‘*.
*(This years excuse for posting Bomfunk MC’s ‘Freestyler’)*“
That is a compliment, in case you were wondering… if you listened to the video above (you should), imagine a similar stylistic vibe with the dance-floor flare of Lifelike and then listen to thing you just imagined below, magic..
‘Don’t Stop‘ is released by Kitsune, and is out now on Beatport. It’s also backed with a remix from Gigamesh which is also quite good.

I dig it, as I do with anything Lifelike related. A-Trak is a great live DJ but generally underwhelms me as a producer (i feel like Duck Sauce Anyway was Armand, Streissand was A-Trak).
I don’t get the whole featuring thing in the DJ world. Either they worked on a track together or they didn’t. It feels like a tired marketing ploy by Lifelike’s team to slap A-Trak’s name on it. It’s almost like Lifelike made a song, A-Trak came into a studio for 10 minutes, heard it, said he digged it, spun a couple turn tables, and said yeah, throw my name on there. At least that’s how I interpret it (95% Lifelike, 5% A-Trak)…People who know about Lifelike don’t need convincing to listen to his work. I just don’t get it. Anyway, cool track, but way looking forward to the Braxe/Lifelike release.
ps Money Makin’ is a natural disaster and now I can’t get it out of my goddamn head.
Barry,
I’m not sure what your taste in music is (I am a fan of A-trak just saying as a disclaimer), but I’d recommend Who’s wearing the Cap remix and a Sebastian Tellier remix he did a few years back as full expression of his talent as a producer.
P.s.- I love the guy but even I can’t defend Money Makin’
@Barry & Ryan
The thing with A-Trak is, he’s a bit like the American version of Erol Alkan, he’s a DJ who seems to recieve a bit of a helping hand when it comes to production, however unlike Erol, who stays pretty consistant in style, A-Trak has been hopping all over the place this year and it looks a bit bandwagon-esque.
I’m also aware I’ve given him a bit of stick for the whole, “We shouldn’t sell-out dance music, plz buy DJ Hero 2″ hypocracy. But, I do like this, it’s cheesy and dumb and I did like his remix of Heads Will Roll from the blogbanger years.
I’m glad everybody agrees that Money Making was awful
