Some people on twitter asked for some words about the new Breakbot album….
I think people on twitter have been asking for the ‘TMS OPINION’ on the new Breakbot album, “By Your Side” because I might use some Pikachu gifs and say it’s awful. It’s not awful, infact… it’s kind of quite good. It’s not amazing, it’s rather safe and the old Breakbot I used to know isn’t really there anymore. That did make me a little bit sad, but, maybe… he’s “moved on“.
However, the new Breakbot isn’t all that bad. The tracks with Irfane are, for the most part, quite nice. He might be playing it too safe, with over using him… slightly but, it’s ok. The tracks with Ruckazoid are, for the most part, a bit like a guy who does alright impressions of other singers. I dunno, that is as scathing as I’m going to get. Sorry.
Pacific! + Breakbot is a combination that needs to happen more often, it really is one of the best things in the whole wide world when their paths cross and it really is one of the best singles not yet to be a single this year.
ED BANGER, LET THEIR PATHS CROSS MORE OFTEN.
IF YOU TAKE REMIX SUGGESTIONS..
SAKURAGARIAN ORCHESTRA REMIX OF THIS WOULD BE CAPS AND !!!
今後彼らがもっと一緒に色々出来るようにED BANGER にお願いしたい!
リミックスはと言いますと…
SAKURAGARIAN ORCHESTRA のリミックスなんかが最強なはず!
For some reason, it’s mentally cheap on Vinyl.
(P.S – The instrumentals are also good.. but, too short!!)
そしてどういう訳か、アナログ盤が激安。
(p.s – インストロメンタルも素敵ですよ、ただ短すぎる…)

I’d like to listen to some Breakbot+College colab
agree 100% on all accounts…Easy Fraction is the jam though
only complaint: id like to hear some female vocals on a bb song for a change…
Breakbot got overrated with time !!! He hasnt impress me for a long time…
Like Will Ferrell would say in zoolander : Todd Terje is so HOT right now…
His new rmx of that hot chip track is pretty amazing!
Damn that breakbot, bow down for Terje!!!
Ax
@Aleks
I never ‘got’ why Ed Banger were so closed off to the likes of College… you’d think it would be a good fit… ,
@Barry
Agree. Like, a really good disco female vocal (not, a hipster darling/jailbait) would be cool
@Axwax
I’m not really familiar with the films of Will Ferrell. The posters for his films look like I won’t enjoy them. You are right about Todd, so hot right now. Even Robbie Williams is putting words on his (actually, very underated at the time) track ‘Eurodans’.

I haven’t liked his last couple of remixes though. He’s falling into that nu-disco trap D:
I don’t agree with your review at all. The album is PERFECT!
Music should be on a take it or leave it basis, reviews like this are spiteful. The music is undoubtedly beautiful, and probably the most well composed ALBUM track for track in 2012 so far.
To be fair to Ruckazoid, the whole Michael Jackson comparison happened because of the Fantasy song, where Ruckazoid’s vocals were clearly sped up. But did you know Ruckazoid’s remix of Fantasy was the ORIGINAL track that breakbot remixed as his lead single? Does Ruckazoid’s version of Fantasy sound like MJ? Not really.
Fantasy went viral, and Ruckazoid’s other productions are lesser known, but if you do a little search for Ruckazoid on Youtube, he’s clearly not a MJ biter, he’s actually doing different productions:

Any good journalist finds sources, and make conclusions based on the sum of their sources. From my little research, I found songs on youtube that are so far from MJ that your review shows that you didn’t do your homework, yet you are making conclusive statements about an artist to the public. Real journalist are required to RESEARCH their pieces to make INFORMED opinions to the public, but you lazily choose to write Ruckazoid off as a MJ copy. Also, if I’m not incorrect, it was Fantasy that got you a hundreds of thousands of plays on Soundcloud, which probably helped your site out a bit, and now you’re hating on them?
If anything, Breakbot’s production sounds like something MJ would be on, and Ruckazoid clearly has the ability to use his voice to fit perfectly with Breakbot’s production!!!!!! That TALENT should be PRAISED, not neglected. Fortunately, most of the people hearing this album are praising it, because they get it.
I also found this on Youtube

With those 3 videos I shared from a little search on Youtube, the picture of Ruckazoid is much different than you’d like to paint on your review. Which brings me to another question:
How original can you get on Breakbot’s music? If it was more original than it is now, it wouldn’t feel like it does. This beautiful album shines because of it’s familiarity, while still being original enough to make you listen to each song from beginning to end. This is a level of production VERY UNCOMMON. It’s extremely well produced, great lyrics about timeless subjects, great vocal performances by everyone, and very easy to listen to by any age group. If you wanted something UBER original, why are you listening to breakbot in the first place?
Breakbot got EXACTLY the right people to do the vocals. I wouldn’t like to hear Chris Brown, Rhianna, Frank Ocean, or any of the recognizable contemporary R & B voices on this album, it probably wouldn’t work. They would probably do the same style they do on every beat they’re on, over produce the vocals until they are perfectly autotuned, and it wouldn’t have the same effect.
The whole concept of Breakbot’s album walks a fine line, it’s already a risk to do music influenced from the past, and for them to make so many references to the artist and producers of the past and pulling it off as their own, is nothing less than amazing. The result is an album that sounds good as the best ones made in 1976-83, but brand new for the kids in 2012 and beyond.
I’m sure all of the vocalists on the album will be coming out with amazingly different music to appeal to contemporary listeners too, but this one is for those of us who love the sound we grew up on. To do that right, you can’t be too original, then it’s not going to work. You have to balance all the factors, and therein lies the challenge in creating an album like this. It takes a certain type of reserve and knowledge of music from yesterday to pull this off… it’s not just “lets go crazy and be original and making something craaaazy”.
A lot of the “original” stuff today is kids going wild with no reserve, and making something cool on accident. I dig that, that’s great, but that’s not what this is. Those kids making “original” stuff wouldn’t know where to start if they tried to make By Your Side. Yet Breakbot and all the vocalists can make some crazy stuff like these “original” kids. Random musical experiments are easier to do, there’s nothing to live up to.
There’s really no room to hate, they did what they set out to do what they wanted to do, and they did it impeccably. Leave it alone. Stop hating. Breakbot’s By Your Side is IMMACULATE.
It’s greatest thing to happen to my country since Daft Punk.
@Ibetbreakbotisreallyscaredofyou
Hey. This isn’t a review, and yes, I was fully aware that ‘Fantasy’ is basically a remix of a Ruckazoid original. A kid called Cosmonaut Grechko was well on to that waaaaaay before everybody else was, he’s good like that. You should check his stuff out. He’s a superb producer.
I actually didn’t say what you said I said though, I like how you read between the lines. Must mean a small part of you thinks it? ‘Fantasy’ is a nice pop song, I didn’t say it wasn’t.. it was originally on a compilation of ‘Bee-Sides’ (it’s a pun, yeah) and perhaps all those madhits I never noticed on soundcloud* helped it be a single**? I will never know and I will have to live with that forever.
You have lots of words and I didn’t really read them all because they were mental (look, that seems a bit harsh.. but, calm down!) . I don’t know what Frank Ocean is and Chris Brown beats woman up….? I mean.. dude.. what?
Irfane has some nice songs with his buddies, Outlines. Surprised you didn’t hit me with that fact. Our Lives Are Too Short is a good album.
The lyrics aren’t brilliant though. Behave yourself.. “Dream/Machine, Potion/Motion’… it’s cute and knowingly a tiny bit cheesy… Like, be happy with that bro.
TL:DR
What I said was mainly nice and I encouraged people to buy the album.
*Bit weird you would remember something I dont and pay attention to something so fucking boring.
.
** If it did, I certainly fucked myself over. Buying an exclusive 7″ that came out again on 12″ and then ended up on the album. Ebay value diminished so bad
Either that guys really good at satire, or took too many trips down the rabbit hole. I think youre only “critique” (and a just one) is that he doesn’t take any real risks or go out of his comfort zone–but that it’s totally okay. This is what Breakbot does–although I would’ve like a little more Easy Fraction funk and a little less disco-pop myself.
Still, its fucking Breakbot.
He should have taken a trip down the happy rabbit hole, he would have liked it more there. And if he doing satire, hats off actually. That was pretty good.
The thing is when I do get a comment like this, it sorta bugs me. I’ve directed people on twitter to buy links to the album and I really do hope that this album sells well. And that’s where I think ‘critique’ is fair, I’m encouraging people to part with the money they have earned. I’m being honest and I think that really can help people make such a decision.
And hey, if you pirated it, and think its the best album ever and fuck tms. Actually, fuck you. He’ll have to tour more and that means he makes less music.
And yeah, it’s still fucking breakbot. If this album was shit, I probably wouldn’t have said anything about it… because that would have been very depressing.
And yeah, I couldn’t resist a meme either.

TMS, I’m 100% on board with ‘Disgruntled Fan.’
The fact that you didn’t even take the time to write a proper review or even mention the album altogether days ago says everything about your view on Breakbot. Did you f**k your girlfriend or something? It’s fairly apparent you don’t like the guy anymore or maybe just a little envy? I don’t know, I am very confused.
I used to check this blog on a daily basis but recently have been much busier due to the fact I started a new job a couple months back. When I heard of the album being released on Monday I came to one of my “go-to blogs” and not a post to be seen the whole week until now. Where you sleeping for a week?? Again, like ‘Disgruntled Fan’ mentioned, I’m sure every post you made whether it had been a Breakbot original or remixed production got 1000′s of hits for your website, thus making you money. How dare you not even show a little respect and do a proper review?!
And as for your “review” in general, just because 2/5ths of the album are songs we have heard for months (some years), does not mean that looking at them in the whole album’s light diminishes their greatness. You are going to sit there and tell me ‘Baby I’m Yours’ and ‘Fantasy’ already aren’t outstanding tracks on their own, just because I bet you have listened to them hundreds of times. Lets not even get into the complete perfect production of ‘Why.’ It’s apparent he hammered the nail on that track just by looking across the interwebs; everyone LOVES it.
It’s funny how you title your post “Some people on twitter asked for some words about the new Breakbot album….” DO YOU NOT SEE THE IRONY IN THAT? People are asking because they are in equal shock as to why you havent given this masterpiece any attention. Honestly, it appears to me that you are just a tad bit jealous. What music have you produced Mr. TMS???
Your limp dick post on the album in general is very insulting to Breakbot, and any other ‘TRUE’ musician out there today. This is top-class music. And people who appreciate and understand music and music theory will appreciate it across the globe.
I’m done ranting, you lost a reader for sure.
And if you delete the comment, all I can do is laugh.
@disgruntledfansfriend
Jeez dude, what an opener of comment. “I didn’t mention the album days ago..” like, wow. Even if that was the case (it’s not) then.. shame on you dude. Just, shame on you.
I’m not sure how me saying, “I’m not really sure about Ruckazoid” is me not liking Breakbot. Especially given the post is essentially a love letter to ‘By Your Side’. I’m not sure how me encouraging people to follow an artist for years is bad and in all honesty. I can’t answer you when you criticise me for not saying something is the best thing in the world the day it’s released, which is sensensational and fake (I spent a week or so before with it, hey, maybe time will show I was wrong about Ruckazoid and he’ll be massive and stuff.. I can live with that).
For the record, I’d love to know how you think TMS makes money? We had adverts for a little while a few years ago, they just about covered the hosting costs. I thought they were too intrusive and the rise in music blogs posting big names, scoring everything sycophantically and nastily consuming things has put me off that for the time being.
It’s really strange how both these comments seem to have two sources of anger behind them. One seems to be about internet traffic, which is quite frankly dull and the second is just that the Ruckazoid tracks were not praised… even though I’ve defended Fantasy now.. you’ve just gone and spouted some buzz sentence at me about ‘Why’… ? Incredible.
So, either you two are the biggest Ruckazoid fans in the world or, you are just some music bloggers trying to wind me up a little. Which, is.. uh, no more than annoying.
The only thing you’ve accomplished here is you’ve prevented other people from leaving their thoughts. As you can see from the opening 3 comments, people had left some opinions and in one case, made a point about a track (not Ruckazoid, sorry) they really enjoyed.
I’d never delete a comment, I only do that when somebody is a massive racist/homophobe or if the person leaving the comment needs to be blocked and they’ve become unhealthily attached to it. Don’t be the latter.
what a definition of lonely-in-their-room-internet-users !
there were some review on TMS which we can say was really satiric with full of “i really don’t like it” opinions, that’s TMS matter, he owns a blog to express himself, so he does. [freedom of expression]
but this review is cool, it’s a perfect mix in between “i like it/i don’t like it”
what seriously do you guys need ? you want like all those soundcloud comments ?
“cool track bro”.
i like when people make some objective comments, specially when it’s bad.
imagine if everybody say it’s great everytime or never say anything bad when they think it is. we’d live in a japanese kitties world all pink cotton candy.
i respect TMS because he has the balls to have opinons, he has his way to do it haha, but haters gonna hate, and i like it, it’s different than heuuuu 100% of all blogs I know.
and saying running a blog is for making money is so hilarious haha
take a break dudes.
I think you are jellies of Breakbot because he has nice hair
Breakbot is one of my favourite artists at the moment, and I will listen to By Your Side many many times. However, I will probably skip over “Why” on most conscious play-throughs. Ruckazoid is a brilliant producer/vocalist – and some of the stuff he released through Listen Compute is amazing – but the chorus on “Why” is just annoying.
Irfane’s tracks work well without going over the top. The Pacific! tracks are really enjoyable. It would be great if the instrumentals were longer.
Why are these commenters getting so hurt personally by a review that is honest and not fawning?
I’m glad the comments section spiced things up. Your review was mild, but so is the album, so all is good. Now that he’s got the LP under his belt he can get back to making amazeballs remixes & singles.
The opening track is perfect and I keep coming back to “A Mile Away.”
I wonder if the chocolate vinyl tasted any good…
Man you two are some shook bitches.
This guy puts a lot of time into supporting this artist and god forbid he doesn’t join the
circle jerk you have going on. It was a very good album, not quite amazing (in my opinion)…and we all know and agree that Breakbot is a phenomenal producer so there is no need for over-defensiveness. Pretty sure its the same person though ya? capitalization etc…chill out on the idol worship man.
No drops or filthy bass? Fokin confused!!
Holy crap, it IS cheap on vinyl! Do want indeed!
I was kind of disappointing with how many vocals there are. All the underlying material is pretty top notch seems like he just kind of over did it with the MJ impersonators. I was hoping for the cd version of his live show really.
it’s rather tragic that TMS has to be the bad news’ courier
why do you have to blame him/them for the critique; why don’t you just tell them producers to make better music aka. music causing positive tms-critique?!?
That Disgruntled Fan comment had me in stitches as he just jumped before he read the post. It is the internet equivalent of some guy asking you for a few dollars on the street but instead of asking you he just assumes you wont and starts threatening to do crazy shit to you. The album is not perfect but then again lots of albums arent and I agree with the comment left by Skeela positive critique is a good thing and we all like Breakbot? It could lead to his second album being even better.
I do like the Ruckazoid jam You Should Know for what it is worth and I liked it because it reminded me a little bit of Prince. I hope nobody starts screaming mad abuse at me for that outlandish opinion.
the album is perfecto. I don’t say Ruckazoid is a MJ copy, hes other songs sounding very different. Funky bot’s music feels like off the wall with Ruckazoid voice is giving an MJ feeling. I can expect one style from one artist, but i think ruckazoid does not do that, he does more styles of music on purpose. impressive.
