What happened?

Samuel B sent us email, he writes:
What happened to this site man? You guys used to post banger after banger, both melodic and harmonic and I could consistently rely on your page for some amazing, breathtaking, innovative tracks. Remember the days when you posted Croquemonsieur and his jams Tiger and Wild Cat? Those were the days, now it seems like you guys are trapped in a crappy disco club from the 70′s or something. I hope the old too many sebastians comes back, best of luck guys.
Well Samuel, good call on Tiger and Wild Cat being great tracks. Let’s re-post those as not enough people paid attention first time….
The reason why we don’t post ‘banger after banger’ these days is because there really aren’t that many producers making good ones (sry bangerbros) in ‘the olden days’ the bangingness of a track was a bit like a decoration to an actual piece of music. Sometimes these decorations could be quite impressive but somewhere in the background there was usually a track to be heard or at the very least, a pretty good idea. The modern day ‘banger’ seems to focus too much on the decoration, the kids on youtube call it ‘sickkkkkkkk production’ and whilst I’m not a producer I think it’s not actually that good ‘production’, just some people cobbling together sample libraries.
Example of an ‘olden days banger’
2nd Example of ‘olden days banger’
Example of Example…. still no proper explanation for his existence.
That’s not to say we haven’t posted any bangers this year, there have been small signs of a resurgence. Club Cheval’s “Now You Realise“, Alex Metric’s “Rave Weapon“, Modeselektor’s “Evil Twin“, Shadow Dancer’s “Second City“, Squarepusher’s “Dark Steering“ and Shinichi Osawa & Paul Chambers’ “Singapore Madness“ are all quite banging and don’t sound like they were made in a couple of days on a trial copy of Fruity Loops. We hope that these type of tracks inspire the younger generation to make something a bit better and then hopefully, we can maybe start posting some bangers on a regular basis again.
Thanks for the email and we agree about posting too much disco at the start of the year. Although, it would be quite funny to visit a disco club in the 70′s because of the moustaches.
Best,
Too Many Sebastians

Thats right! you shall be senselessly held responsible for this new generation of retail disco.
jacques lu cont’s chucrch was quite a banger
Check out Gesaffelstein. That’s some new school banger stuff I tell ya.
No pressure or anything.
Personally I don’t think there’s enough disco being posted. And I’ve gone disco, because “bangers” these days make me think of Steve Aoki, The Bloody Beetroots, Deadmaus and any number of American producers that visited Europe, possibly as students, had a great time during the noughties, returned home enlightened and inspired and got it completely FUCKING wrong. Mixing the heavier sounds of Daft Punk, Justice, SebastiAn, Ed Banger/institubes with fucking Dutch Trance. I feel old.
Exploring the sounds of the current wave of disco re-edits and new disco productions has been the only thing keeping me musically happy over the past couple of years. Oh, and please no techno, because it’s war in my head and I’m ready to DISCO.
What pelham123 said. I’m gonna put on my dad music and wear the plaid. No shame.
Pelham123 couldn’t have said it better
Really pleased this has generated some discussion. So hats off to Sam for inspiring it. In a way it was a good kick up the arse that reminded me that this is what makes music blogging interesting, the feedback and opinions of others.
@Hankerchief Head
Hahaha. You joke… but, there is some small truth in that probably. I dunno, I’m a bit disappointed that people that should know better have ended up in that world.
@hadox
Damn. Yeah. I dunno how I forgot that one. He rarely makes anything awful too. Ooops!
@pelham123
It’s interesting you say this. I think quite a few people switched to the whole disco thing when the melodies left the ‘bangers’. I mean, if you like music… you just follow the music it seems. Which is good. I do think the ‘disco crowd’ have been pushing it a little of late though, endless re-edits seem to be a bit of a problem at the moment.
I’d like it if both sides opened up a little to each other, it’s clear they have a shared fanbase (outside of Aoki & pals)… could be quite nice?
“U no post bangur anymore? I move to tracasseur”
imho tms is an inspiration for lots of people out there: bloggists and bloggers, djs and maybe even producers
bangin tracks have become the new standard (cf. brostep, complextro, etc)
moving away from bangurness to real good productions (70s like disco stuff) causes a necessary balance
can’t even express correctly how much I love this post. I totally have felt the same way as the guy who sent you that email. I thought you guys had just become a blog about snarky sarcasm and shitty italo-disco.
Your response was sincere and perfect, I understand completely, and will be visiting this blog more often knowing that you aren’t just assholes all the time.
Thanks for addressing it
Woah woah woah, lets leave Italo-Disco out of this…

TMS posted this ^^ and it changed my life. Thank you TMS.
Sort of late to the party here, but great list of bangers. Love love love everything by Metric and Shinichi. Would like to throw out Proxy’s remix of Really Want to See you Again as a banger candidate as well…
Keep up the good work
