Closer To Me + Ferdinand Interview!

We’ve been fans of the Quinten 909 for sometime now, however, when he recently did a mixtape for us we couldn’t help but notice something very odd. The ‘scratching’ in the mixtape was not usual ‘scratching’ we are used to hearing from DJ’s… it sounded more.. animalistic. Almost like a cat was behind the decks…. we investigated and quickly discovered that it was indeed a cat who had made the mix. Quinten’s cat, Ferdinand. The same cat who Quinten 909 blames on twitter, ‘ruining his tracks’ & ‘getting in the way’. We flew over to Dutchland to interview this amazing cat and get the WORLD EXCLUSIVE FIRST EVER INTERVIEW.(BANGOR 320!!!)

私達もファンなQuinten 909、最近私達の為にミックステープを作ってくれたのも記憶に新しいですがその中にあった’scratching’は今まで聞いたことのあるのとちょっと違った事に気が付きました。なんだか猫的な感じが加わっていたというか・・そこで捜査をしてみた所、実際に猫が絡んでいたっていうか猫があのミックスを作った事が判明！それはQuintenの猫Ferdinandだったのです。QuintenがTwitterでトラックをぶち壊しにした、とか邪魔をする、なんてよく話している猫です。そこで急遽オランダにてその噂の猫にインタビューをしてみました。こちら世界初なのでかなりの大ニュースですよ！

How long have you been working with Quinten?
Hmm we met about a year ago. I was wandering the streets all day and Quinten took me to his house. He gave me some food and I kinda sticked around ever since. You know how it goes. Anyway, soon he found out I knew a thing or two about bass & chords so we started working on some stuffs.

Quintenと働いてどれくらいになりますか?
大体1年くらい前に出会ったんだけど、道をウロウロしてる所を彼に拾われたんだよ。食べ物をくれてからそのまま一緒に居る事になったんだ。よくある感じだよ。それで彼が僕が音楽をかじっていた事を発見してそれ以来一緒にやってるんだよ。

I hear that Quinten takes alot of the credit for you work, how do you feel about this?
Lolz, yeah well I dont really care. I’m sterilized anyway so I’m not looking to get laid. He is though. Really… I mean, 24/7. This guy has serious issues.

Quintenが貴方の仕事を自分があたかもやったような感じでやっていますがどう思います?
あんま気にしてないよ。それに去勢しちゃってるからそういう欲もないし。彼は違うけど、本当いい加減にしてほしいよ。24時間毎日だよ。

Were you inspired by the work of Phoenix, the cat of Thomas Bangalter?
Of course. Da Funk is all him, his great vocoder skills on Around on the World and he cut the samples for High Fidelity. Phoenix was one of the greatest. RIP.

PhoenixやThomas Bangalterの猫に影響を受けてるって本当?
勿論。Da Funkは全部彼の手柄だしAround on the Worldのあの声だって、High Fidelityのカットしてるサンプルだってそうだよ。Phoenixのも本当に素晴らしかったよ。もういなくなってしまったけど・・

Are there any other cat producers that have influenced your work?
Not just producers. I get influenced by cats wherever I go really. Rappers in the streets, singers in windows, rooftopfunkateers, I love it all! Life + Love = Inspiration you know.

その他にも影響を受けた猫プロデューサーもいるんですか？
影響されるのはプロデューサーだけじゃないよ。例えば路上のラッパーとか窓際のシンガーとか屋根の上のファンキーな奴とか色々。皆大好きだよ。そういうことでインスピレーションが生まれるんだよ。

How do you feel about Felix Da Housecat, when he is a human, just pretending to be a cat?
I believe cat is short for catastrophe here. No, just kidding, we’re not going there!

Felix Da Housecatの事どう思う？彼は人間なのに猫って偽ってますよね？
多分このCatっていうのはcatastrophe(大惨事)の略だと思うよ。いやいや、嘘です。

Also Cat Stevens & Cat Power? They aren’t cats either!! Do you think they are stealing work from legitiment cat producers?
The only way to understand it, is by experiencing it. They will never make the same music cats do.

じゃぁCat StevensとかCat Powerは？どちらも猫じゃないけど・・彼らの猫の力を悪用してる？
色々試してるみたいだけどさ、本当の猫ミュージックっていうのは猫にしか作れないんだよ。

Just spoken to your cat. What is it like working with such a talented feline?
Eh.. What? I don’t know what he told you, but he basicly just keeps the mice away here.

今貴方の猫とお話したんですけどあんなに有能な猫と一緒に働く事をどう思いますか?
どういう事？彼が何を言ったか知らないけど彼はあくまでもネズミを追っかけてるだけだよ。

Do you think you’ll be able to continue working with him? I heard Boys Noize wants him to produce his next album.
Oh sure, he can chill at BN for a while! Gives me some to clean up the house.  Seriously it’s a mess wherever he goes! He’s so clumsy (just like my flatmate Jeroen Verharen).

今後も彼と一緒に続けて行けると思いますか?Boys Noizeが彼に次のアルバムをプロデュースして欲しいなんて噂も聞きましたよ。
勿論。それもいずれかできるんじゃないかな。でもちょっと掃除道具を貰わないと。本当に汚し放題なんだよ。しかも僕のフラットメートJeroen Verharenと一緒で超不器用なんだ。
