Monsieur Adi is an upcoming electronic music producer and label owner that we’ve barely featured on TMS. Which is odd, because him and his label is very, very good. In this post we make up for it slightly by interviewing him. 
今後が楽しみなエレクトロニックアーティストMonsieur Adiはプロデューサーでもある独自のレーベルも持っています。今までTMSで触れた事がほとんど無かった彼ですが、レーベルも彼の音楽もとっても素敵です。今回はインタビューと一緒にご紹介。
Who is Monsieur Adi and why did he decide to start making music?
Well, I’m a 23 year old design student that got into music by accident when my friend asked me to help him with some demos since he knew I did the music on my old portfolio website . It just kind of went from there !

僕は今23歳のデザインを勉強している学生で音楽を作り出したのは友達のデモ作りの手伝いを頼まれたのがキッカケ。その友達は僕が以前にポートフォリオウェブサイトの為に音楽を作った事がある事を知ってたんだ。そこがスタートだったと思うよ。
You are French musician with electronic aspects and your sound has been compared to the likes of Daft Punk & Justice, do you take this as a compliment? Or as something inevitable ?
Actually, I’m part Italian and part French, but I think it’s a great compliment to be compared to these artists as I sincerely admire their work . I can remember when I first heard Daft Punk’s ‘Discovery’ and saw ‘Interstella 5555,’ I was so fascinated with the feeling and the sound . And then came Justice with this much more powerful and intense sound . I guess I have found a middle ground between these two, but it’s most definitely a compliment ! I must also say, I am a huge fan of Mirwais and Bjork . ^^

I hear a big classical influence in your music, am I right in thinking that?
Definitely . I studied the violin and piano for some years and did some vocal training so it just kind of comes into my work . I like that it gives the électronique music some added emotion that, otherwise, is very hard to add to.

間違いないね。僕はバイオリンとピアノを何年かやっていたしボーカルトレーニングもしてた事もあったよ。だから自然にそういう感じが出てるんだと思う。そういう事によってエレクトロニックミュージックにも感情の様なものがプラスされるのが好きなんだ。

You’ve remixed some fairly big artists, did they come to you or did you get in contact?
I decided I would do a lot of remix contests just to get familiar with making remixes and such . I remember I actually won some, but the biggest was the contest that Frankmusik held. From there, it kind of opened some more doors . I remember Marina messaged me on myspace to remix ‘Obsessions’ – but she can tell you that I took FOREVER to finish it . I was very late . I was being very particular about it, but in the end she said she really loved it so that was enough for me . There are some that I would be very tempted to break out of my shy box and ask like Hurts as I love their sound !

You’ve also remixed both Ellie Goulding singles, how did that happen?
It was kind of a shock that was! I remember I was listening to Ellie’s myspace some weeks before and thought it would be very cool to remix her, but I did not ask as I am shy about that type of stuff . Some weeks later, I received an email from her manager Jamie and he asked me if I would be interested in remixing ‘Starry Eyed’ so I definitely took that . I thought I was done, but he sent me another email a month later asking me if I would like to remix ‘Guns And Horses’ also . I am just really thankful for it and the feedback has been mostly positive . I hope there will be more chances to work with her and her voice in the future as I really like her music and voice.

It was definitely odd . He was browsing my portfolio of my work online and he sent an email to say it impressed a lot . We just stayed in contact a lot and it was not until about two years later that I knew he was a singer and that he knew I did some light musical work . He sent me a demo of him singing a song by Coldplay and I said to him, I will be right back in an hour . I came back and I had remixed it a little . He thought it was very cool so from there, we just blindly made his debut album .I definitely learned a lot as I went since I never imagined to do get into music at all . Also, during that time I was doing a lot of remix contests just so I could learn some techniques and try to push myself . Remix contests are the best way to practice I have to say . Definitely I would love to produce music for other artists now .

You study Fashion design, is it difficult juggling the two? Are they related in anyway?
It’s difficult indeed, and I must say that the music has taken over the designing a lot since I now dedicate most of my time to music . They are definitely related in an odd way I can say . When I sketch, I think about my music . When I do my music, I think about my sketches . I think it all relies on aesthetics so my music and what I design reflect each other . One thing I definitely want to do is make a special soundtrack for a show like Justice did for Dior Homme with Planisphère – epic !

I have released my first EP ever ‘We Are The Romans’ on my label Technofavrik which was great ! I’m working on maybe releasing one or two more before I release my full length album ‘Empire’ later in the summer . I am looking at doing some videos, too . Also, I’m working at building my label and currently will release the music of a young Swedish trio, Stay Ali . Will be cool !
